A 39-year-old Ugandan-born American citizen, Christopher Okello Onuum, has been sentenced to death after being found guilty of k!lling four toddlers in a nursery school attack in Kampala. The tragic incident, now widely referred to as the Ggaba daycare k!llings, happened on April 2, 2026, at an early childhood development centre in the Ggaba area. According to reports, he gained access to the school by posing as a parent looking to enroll a child. Once inside, he allegedly locked the gate and attacked the children with a knife. Four toddlers, aged between 15 months and 3 years, lost their lives in the attack. He was later apprehended by a security guard and nearly lynched by an angry crowd before being rescued by police. During the trial, which drew national attention, prosecutors presented CCTV footage, DNA evidence, and call records. Investigators also revealed that searches found on his devices included phrases related to nearby schools and violent content. The court heard that he allegedly confessed to carrying out the attack as a form of ritual intended to bring him wealth. On April 30, 2026, Justice Alice Komuhangi Khaukha found him guilty on four counts of murder, rejecting claims of insanity and noting the calculated nature of the act. He was subsequently sentenced to death on May 2, 2026.
