Alan Osmond, eldest of the Osmonds, has did at the age of 76. He passed away on April 20, 2026, four decades after he was first diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. His wife, Suzanne, and their eight sons were at his bedside when he d!ed. Alan rose to fame on The Andy Williams Show, singing first as a barbershop quartet with brothers Wayne, Merrill and Jay. Then, younger siblings Jimmy and Donny joined, launching the group to global stardom in the 1970s with hits like One Bad Apple and Love Me for a Reason. Osmond was the creative leader of the band, as the eldest in the group, playing guitar and piano as well as singing backup. He and Merrill were the songwriters of the group, co-penning and co-producing much of their music. The group became known as the “one take Osmonds”. The Osmonds sold over 77million records worldwide. In 1987, Alan Osmond was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. MS is a chronic autoimmune disease which impacts the central nervous system, brain, and spinal cord, and often leaves patients unable to move. He first realised he was unwell while on stage, previously revealing he “couldnt raise [his] right hand”. Osmond famously took up the mantra: “I may have MS, but MS does not have me!” In a statement, shared with The Daily Express, a representative of the family said: “His positive outlook was an inspiration to many, and he donated much of his time speaking at MS events, encouraging individuals like himself on how to mentally and physically deal with the advancement and treatment of the disease.” Osmond was rarely seen in later years but frequently attended MS events and advocated for continued research into the disease. It was in 2007 that he largely stopped performing, however, in 2018, he returned for a one-off gig with his brothers in Honolulu. He continued writing, though, and two years ago shared his life story in a memoir titled One Way Ticket.
