Popular Islamic cleric, Sheik Gumi, has sparked a debate online after sharing his thoughts on a recent data showing a lesser occurrence of HIV in the Muslim states and countries. In the data he posted on his Facebook page, Northern states like Katsina, Jigawa, Sokoto, Bauchi, and Yobe had the lowest number of HIV patients, while states like Akwa Ibom, Benue, Rivers, Anambra, and Enuguwhich are predominantly Christianhad the highest numbers.” Reacting to the post, Gumi insinuated that culture and lifestyle is a major factor in how diseases are being transmitted.
