Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have arrested a woman, identified simply as Joy, for allegedly stealing two infants. The suspect reportedly orchestrated the abductions to replace her deceased twins and prevent her partner from leaving her. The Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed the details while parading the suspect. In a video broadcast published online, Edafe explained that Joy targeted local traders by posing as a customer. According to preliminary police investigations, the suspect first stole a four-month-old infant from a woman selling groundnuts and subsequently abducted a second baby from a woman selling ticketing stubs. During police interrogation, Joy confessed to the crimes, citing a tumultuous relationship with her partner. She claimed he had previously abandoned her due to recurrent miscarriages. Though she later gave birth to a set of twinsa boy and a girlthe infants tragically died six weeks later. Fearful that the loss would end her relationship, Joy hid the tragedy from her partner. She admitted she felt forced to act quickly because he was already planning an elaborate child dedication ceremony for this coming Sunday. She decided to abduct the two infants to pass them off as her surviving twins. The desperate scheme fell apart after the mothers of both abducted children filed independent reports with the police. Following a detailed tracking operation and a swift investigation, law enforcement officers successfully located the suspect, rescued the babies, and took Joy into custody. The Delta State Police Command confirms that further legal proceedings are underway.
