Bashir El-Rufai, son of former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai, has tendered a public apology over the way he announced the breakdown of his marriage to his ex-wife, Halima Nwakaego Kazaure. Bashir made the apology on his X account on Saturday, June 13, 2026. “I made a mistake a few weeks ago and I would like to apologize. Personal matters should be kept private,” he wrote. He also claimed to have equally apologized to Halima. Bashir and Halima – daughter of former Minister of Labour and Productivity Ibrahim Kazaure – got married in 2020 and welcomed a set of twins the following year. Bashir announced the end of his marriage to Halima on X, citing “Gen Z wahala”. He made this known after his public admiration for another woman sparked reactions from users who reminded him that he was a married man. “Im not married yet. I am divorced.
